Reading the evidence
How common is deepfake fraud in the UK?
Nobody can give a reliable UK count of deepfake fraud losses. The evidence is indirect: how many deepfakes exist, what security leaders report and how much fraud is lost overall.

Reports
What organisations say
Gartner's survey of security leaders, reported on 23 September 2025, found 44% had seen at least one deepfake audio call against staff and 36% a deepfake video attack [7]. Of the audio cases, 6% caused interruption, financial loss or lost intellectual property, and of the video cases, 5% caused a serious problem [7]. The article gives no sample size [7].
Losses
What UK totals show
UK Finance says £1.28 billion was stolen through payment fraud in 2025, up 4%, and that authorised push payment losses rose 19% to £576.4 million [4]. Its release does not report deepfakes separately [4]. Industry voices quoted by SecurityBrief UK say AI-driven scams are growing, including cloned voices, but those are opinions, not measured counts [5].
The government survey adds a baseline: 12% of businesses reported impersonation breaches or attacks in the past year, down from 17% in 2023 [6].

How to read these together
The numbers do not show deepfake fraud is common among UK businesses, nor that it is rare. They show the tools are widespread and that impersonation is a live attack, so a cheap, tested check is proportionate.

Need a hand with any of this?
Patching is one job. Keeping a vulnerable system safe until it is patched, and proving it, is several more. CyPro's consultants, testers and SOC analysts can take any of them off your plate.
Vulnerability scanning
Find every internet-facing system you run, including the forgotten ones, and see which are still on a vulnerable build.

Hardening and segmentation
Our consultants put the controls in place that limit the damage when something is missed: firewall rules, network isolation and tighter admin access.

Know your exposure
Not sure you are protected?
Deepfake fraud is stopped by decisions about who may release money or access and how a request is confirmed. A virtual CISO helps leaders set those rules and have them tested, without a full-time hire.
